For a holiday park with approximately 200 chalets A transition from DOCSIS 3.0 to DOCSIS 3.1 is often worthwhile, but only if the rest of the infrastructure and the business case justify it. The biggest benefit lies not only in higher speeds, but also in more capacity and a better user experience when many guests are online at the same time.
1. The current coaxial infrastructure
First check whether the existing coaxial cable wiring is suitable.
Think of:
DOCSIS 3.1 uses higher modulations (up to 4096-QAM), which makes the network much "cleaner" than with DOCSIS 3.0.
2. CMTS or CCAP
The central equipment must support DOCSIS 3.1.
That often means:
This is usually the largest investment, In addition to the network itself, all equipment and passive components must be suitable for the new signal that goes to higher frequencies.
3. Cable modems
All DOCSIS 3.0 modems will eventually have to be replaced by DOCSIS 3.1 modems.
For 200 chalets, that means approximately:
Many operators combine both upgrades. Keep in mind that Docsis 3.1 modems are currently much more expensive to purchase than Docsis 3.0 modems. It only makes sense to offer Wifi 6 or even 7 if your guests' equipment also supports it!
4. Bandwidth to the internet
A DOCSIS 3.1 network is of little use when The total bandwidth of the park internet connection is too small.
At 200 chalets In conjunction with Docsis 3.1, it is often thought of as:
With Docsis 3.0, the park often has enough bandwidth at 1 Gbit/s.
5. Segmentation
Often the network has grown historically.
When upgrading, it may be a good idea to:
That often yields more than just activating DOCSIS 3.1.. Also if Docsis 3.0 remains in use
6. Upstream
A major advantage of DOCSIS 3.1 is the improved upload capacity.
Steeds meer toepassingen vragen daarom:
7. Toekomstbestendigheid
